Yeah, I haven't posted in forever and now I'm using LJ as a lazy social tool. Thus is life.
Tomorrow's a work holiday but not a SoCal passholder blackout day. Anyone want to join me at Disneyland? There's the usual Disney fun plus the California Food and Wine Festival is still going on.

Who out there is doing Southern Faire this year? Full-time or part-time?
I'm thinking of trying to get back into Faire this year. I'm not sure if I want to do Danse Macabre or try something new. (I haven't been on the Danse Macabre mailing list for a while, so not sure what's going on over there.) (Whatever I do will involve some sewing because I really need a new bodice and possibly other garb.)
Anyone have a link to the workshop/rehearsal schedule?

Because it must be shared.
Too many guest stars to list them all but I will tell you it includes a solo from NPH.
ETA: Okay the embed doesn't seem to be working, but you can watch it here.
ETA 2: I think I fixed the embed.

I got my computer back from the Apple Store today! It was actually ready yesterday afternoon, but I didn't get the phone message until after the store had closed. Fast! And they replaced the hard drive and the logic board. Hopefully no more crashing. (And no more excuses to put off NaNo - though I did write 800 words on my typewriter this weekend.)
There were a number of anti-Prop 8 rallies around the state this evening. I didn't think I'd be able to go because I was working 3 to midnight as usual. But! Around 11:25, a co-worker told me that the rally in West Hollywood was huge and still going, so I decided to go check it out after work.
A mass of cars and people were heading from Santa Monica Boulevard to Sunset Boulevard when I found them. It took me a little while to find a place to park so I could join the walkers, but most of the cars around me were honking and waving "No on Prop 8" signs anyway.
I didn't have time after work to grab my camera, unfortunately, but I shot a bit of video with my phone. Crap pictureand sound quality, but better than none at all. A lot of car honking, too. For some reason, the sound didn't upload to YouTube, but it's not worth futzing with.

If I see any more California-bashing today, I think I might scream. I know the people upset at my state today are ones that are on my side - but 48% percent of us voted against Prop 8. (Which is a hell of a better record than Florida.)
The straight-up fact is that the Prop 8 supporters had more money than us. Funded in a large part, by the way, by out-of-state Mormons. So before you start bitching about my state - how much did you do to fight this proposition?
(Not aimed at anyone on my flist, just at stuff I've seen today.)

I'm so emotionally drained today. I'm thrilled with Obama's victory and heartbroken at the passing of Prop 8.
Too frequently over the last eight years, I've been unhappy and even ashamed of what was done in the name of my country and by extension, in my name. Despite being a raging left-wing liberal, I have never hated my country, but some days I have loved it in the way that you love an eccentric relative who shows up at your party and tells all your friends that they're ugly and their mother dresses them funny. Last night I was filled with love and pride for my country and my fellow citizens.
I don't expect that Barack Obama will be a perfect president. I don't agree with everything he says and I expect I will disagree with him more in the future. But I believe he's an intelligent man, a good man, and one who will be a great leader at a time when we really need one.
The fight against Prop 8 is not over. I wish we could have seen a decisive smackdown of it yesterday, though. The fact is that Prop 8 supporters had way more money (funded mostly by out-of-state Mormons) than we did and ran a deceptive, fear-mongering campaign. They bombarded California with images and sounds of Barack Obama speaking against gay marriage - even though his words were taken out of context and he opposed Prop 8.
But the fight is far from over. Can we win this? YES WE CAN.

Letting gay couples get married is JUST LIKE HITLER. (Link leads to No on Prop 8 donation page. Video is on the right.)
Also, Californians please vote No on Prop 4, which is a mandatory parental notification law for teens getting abortions. Look, if I'd gotten pregnant as a teen, I'd have gone to my mom, law or no law. But not everyone grows up in a home where they can talk to their parents safely. (Link is to a donation page, fyi.)

Tom Lenk comes out.

The No On Prop 8* site has a donation form that includes an "in honor of" form.
I dare you to make a donation and put in the name of your favorite slash pairing. (First names or initials fine!)
*Prop 8 would eliminate gay marriage in California.
ETA: Utah Mormons are donating $1 million plus to fight this - we need to rally!

Robert Pattinson, for those who are unaware, is the star of the Twilight movies. He plays Edward Cullen.

We found out that Rupert recently lost a bet to actor Robert Pattinson, who was once part of the Harry Potter cast in a previous film, and insisted that Rupert read the bestselling book. Rupert is now "stuck reading 'Twilight'" and that Rob was just texting him to see how far along he was getting.
Rupert admitted he had only read the first five chapters of the bestselling book and we just informed him that there were three more books in the series. "No, really, are you serious? I thought there was just this one book?" Only now realizing he has to read three more, Rupert took his phone out and sent another message to Rob. By the looks of things, we can bet it wasn't a very pleasant message.

For the first time in history, the Republicans chose a woman to run for vice-president. Hillary supporters? You did this. Senator Clinton may have lost the nomination but she still changed the world. No matter which party wins the election, barriers will be broken.
I'm not going to admonish you not to vote for McCain, though, because I think that's fairly obvious. I mean, women aren't interchangeable, no matter what the cable news shows may think. One day we will have an election where the gender and race of the candidates aren't the central issue. This is not that time. But it's a step forward.

There's an increasing number of women using smartphones? Must be the baby applications and pretty colors. Couldn't be that the price is coming down and women, on average, make less money than men.

I have a new Palm Centro. Which is awesome and lets me be on the Internet wherever I can get a signal. Bonus? Pocket Tunes also plays Internet radio stations.
Yes. Technology has finally advanced to the point where I can listen to the radio from a pocket-sized device. It's a wonderful age we live in.
